NURS 499 Clinical Practicum

This clinical course focuses on mastery of professional nursing knowledge, skills, and attitudes using an immersive one-to-one precepted model at a designated clinical site. Clinical experiences will take place across various spheres of healthcare and will be determined by the clinical placement team based on student preference combined with site and preceptor availability. This course will prepare students for independent professional practice through the analysis and synthesis of prior knowledge. The clinical experience will strengthen students' confidence in clinical judgment, evidence-based clinical decision-making, interprofessional collaboration, innovation, leadership, and advocacy. Regularly scheduled faculty check-ins cultivate discussion, critical thinking, with peer and faculty collaboration to support students as they prepare for role transition.

This clinical course includes 168 hours of clinical practice experience. The clinical hours will be met by attending on-site clinical days with a 1:1 or 1:2 preceptor for 136 hours and course-specific on-site clinical days in the Simulation Lab for 32 hours.
