SW 345 Junior Foundations Lab

This course provides students with opportunities to apply social work skills, values, and ethics in immersive community and virtual practicum experiences. Emphasizing the integration of classroom knowledge with emerging practice, the course supports students' professional development through self-reflection and preparation for their Senior Practicum. Students will engage in activities that promote socialization into the social work profession and strengthen their readiness for Senior practicum experiences.

The Junior Foundations Lab experience offers learning opportunities that build on the foundational knowledge and skills introduced in SW 351 and SW 352. This course establishes a basis for generalist social work practice by focusing on developing students' knowledge, understanding, and skills in building professional relationships with clients, supervisors, coworkers, and external organizations. Additionally, students will develop and enhance their resumes and strengthen communication skills to prepare for their Senior Practicum Internship.

In the Junior Foundations Lab, students will engage in collaborative learning, sharing experiences from diverse immersive communities and virtual practicum settings. The course will emphasize active participation in group processes and the development of group leadership skills. Students will also explore and deepen their understanding of the professional use of self within the social work role.
