SW 370CD Social Work Practicum & Seminar I
The Social Work Practicum Placement and Seminar I is designed for the senior social work student to integrate classroom learning with practical social work experience in an agency setting. Throughout the semester, students complete 16 hours of practicum placement per week to fulfill the 425-hour, year-long BSW senior practicum requirement. In addition, students meet weekly for live sessions, each lasting 1 hour and 20 minutes, as part of the practicum seminar. Through reflective discussions, weekly assignments, and process recordings, the Practicum Seminar focuses on integrating theory and practice, building the student’s professional social work identity, enhancing self-awareness skills, advancing practice competencies, and synthesizing learning from the practicum. All aspects of agency practicum work, including learning to work within the agency context, effectively utilizing supervision, using research to inform practice, applying social work values and ethics, and integrating social work knowledge and skills with clients, are addressed.
