Program Requirements

The Humanities major requires a total of 40 credit hours.

Category One: Introduction to the Humanities

HUM 100Introduction to the Humanities

Category Two: Critical Thinking and Argumentation

Complete one of the following courses:

PHIL 122Real-Life Logic

PHIL 123Symbolic Logic

Category Three: Public Humanities Writing

Complete the following course:

LTWR 103Public Humanities Writing

Category Four: Global Humanities

Complete one KCA :: (GH) Global Historical course in the humanities that focuses on a culture or history outside of the US. (4 credit hours)

Category Five: Artistic Literacy

Complete one ART or MUS course or AADM 143. (4 credit hours)

Category Six: Literatures and Languages

Complete one course in LTWR*, SPAN*, or take CHL 313. (4 credit hours)

Category Seven: Historical Perspectives

Complete one HIST* course. (4 credit hours)

Category Eight: Philosophical Thinking

Complete one PHIL course. (4 credit hours)

Category Nine: Elective in the Humanities

Complete one course of your preference in the humanities or cross-listed with a humanities course. (4 credit hours)

Category Ten: Capstone

Complete one of the following courses to fulfill the Capstone Requirement. (4 credit hours)

* Please note these prerequisite courses in other programs in the Humanities Department:

  • LTWR 199 is a prerequisite for 300-level LTWR courses.
  • SPAN 245 is a prerequisite for 200 & 300-level SPAN courses.
  • Two HIST courses are prerequisites for HIST Seminars.
