LIS 444 Digital Preservation

This course will investigate current practice for the preservation of digital materials. Topics will include sustainability characteristics of digital media; media formats; metadata; rights issues; asset and risk management; digital forensics; quality control; and certification. Each topic is addressed theoretically, practically, and socio-technically to help students develop an increased understanding of digital technologies, ecosystems, and requirements. Students will focus on a wide variety of digital media, tools for analyzing and supporting digital content, and digital preservation infrastructure.
